Our Summer in Ghana

Little Artists travelled from Houston to Accra to run a Cultural Arts Exchange and Children's Arts Festival with Achimota Anglican Basic School, in collaboration with Care for Society Network International. This is the week, in photographs.

Chapter 01

We taught every single day

Colour theory on the whiteboard in the morning, brushes in hand by the afternoon.

  • Seven days of lessons at Achimota Anglican Basic School
  • Drawing, watercolour, and a starfish seascape that turned up on table after table
  • Time one to one with every young artist, not just a lesson from the front of the room

Chapter 02

They made real art, and they signed it

Not worksheets. Finished pieces they could hold up, show off, and take home.

  • Every student left the week with work of their own
  • No two seascapes came out the same
  • The finished pieces went up for the children's art exhibition

Chapter 03

Then the whole neighbourhood came

We closed the week with a children's arts exhibition and festival.

  • Open to families, teachers, and the whole Achimota neighbourhood
  • Face paint, and the students' paintings on every wall
  • The kids stood with their own work while people came to see it

Chapter 04

And we left something behind

Forty students learned with us face to face. The lessons did not stop when we flew home.

  • Art supplies donated to the school
  • Lesson guides written so teachers can keep running the sessions without us
  • 2,250 students reached through that support
